Description
Jayda Johnson is a Kentucky-based fine artist specializing in oil painting and sculpture. She earned her BFA in Studio Art from the University of Kentucky in 2023, where she cultivated her passion for material process, figurative work, and conceptual storytelling. Her practice spans painting, ceramics, metal, plaster, and poetry—merging historical narratives with personal identity.
Her work has been curated and exhibited locally and regionally, highlighting themes of memory, resilience, and the complexities of collective history.
Through richly textured surfaces, archival imagery, and symbolic motifs, Jayda fearlessly blends Afro-surrealism and expressive mark-making to uncover deeper truths about identity, memory, and the human condition. Her work not only honors the resilience and beauty of the Black experience but also calls for a reckoning with the legacies of history and the realities we construct today.
